Happy New Year one and all!!
As the fireworks settle and the chink of the champagne glasses have waned, consider Auld Lang Syne and the year that was. Consider how you could have done things better and take those ideas into the new year of 2017. It’s time to re-energise and commit to some New Year’s resolutions. It’s also a great time to commit to your future and the future of your business.
Stuck for ideas? Look to the business leaders like Google for example. They have announced that by the end of 2017 Google will be powered 100 percent by renewable energy. Has your organisation set a 2017 goal to extract value from the clean energy economy?
Here are four clean energy goals that any Australian organisation can achieve in 2017:
- A simple, almost no brainer, is to change out old technology light fittings with new low wattage LED fittings. A typical ROI on this can be as little as 1-2 years. This is a great way to instantly reduce energy consumption in your organisation.
- For those who have motors or pumps, a good idea is to install soft starters or Variable Speed Drives (VSD’s). These vary the frequency and voltage supplied to the electric motor which reduce the overall electricity consumption.
- If your organisation uses refrigeration or air-conditioning does this equipment have smart control systems – these can be retrofit. Don’t forget one of the biggest consumers in a building is cooling and during summer these considerable costs are added to your electricity bill by overuse or simply old inefficient equipment well past its use by date.
- Install commercial solar PV to generate your own clean energy. Typical ROI’s are 3 – 5 years on quality systems.
So make 2017 a year of reducing wasted energy (read money) and build greater reliance for your organisation on cleaner, greener on-site renewable energy sources.
